Isaac Brock

1769–1812

Major general and civil administrator

Brock used speed, bluff, and alliance with Tecumseh to compel Hull’s surrender at Detroit, then died leading a counterattack at Queenston Heights.

Why this record matters

He became central to later Canadian memory, but his strategic aims were British imperial aims distinct from both later Canadian nationalism and Tecumseh’s defense of Native autonomy.
