Shawnee leader · Indigenous coalition

Tecumseh

c. 1768–1813

Diplomat, strategist, and coalition builder

Tecumseh worked across Native nations and communities to resist piecemeal land cessions and build a political and military coalition capable of checking American expansion.

Why this record matters

His alliance with Britain was strategic, not subordinate. His death at the Thames weakened the coalition and helped make Indigenous diplomatic exclusion at Ghent catastrophic.
